The Bellarine Landcare Group

Landcare is an iconic social movement which exists in all states of Australia and is developing internationally. Landcare is a joint effort between volunteers, the community, government and businesses – its members share a common concern for the environment and work together to shape the future of our land, biodiversity and waterways.  In Victoria there are some 725 Landcare Groups and there are approximately 46000 Landcare members.

The Bellarine Landcare Group was formed in 1994 to preserve, protect and enhance the natural environment of the Bellarine Peninsula. BLG has over 160 members and continues to grow. The Bellarine Landcare Group is part of the Bellarine Catchment Network.

Statement of Purpose

To promote biodiversity and the sustainable use of the land and water resources to create a healthy and natural environment across the Bellarine Peninsula.

Our Vision

To be recognised throughout Victoria as a leading Landcare organisation achieving 15% indigenous plant coverage across the Bellarine Peninsula

Core Values

Bellarine Landcare volunteers will :

  • Enhance the strength of the organisation through cooperation and inclusiveness
  • Strive to understand and learn more about the essential elements of natural eco systems
  • Promote a healthy and sustainable environment
  • Educate and inform the rural and urban community
  • Collaborate with other community groups and government organisation that have similar aims and objectives

Our executive committee oversees the group’s operations, applies for project funding and together with our Landcare facilitator organises activities like weed removal, community workshops or planting days.  Our Indigenous Nursery in Drysdale is run in conjunction with Bellarine Secondary College and produces many seedlings for re-vegetation projects and for BLG members to purchase.

The Bellarine Landcare Group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm at Marcus Hill Hall (corner of Bellarine Highway and Banks Road). BLG has an office in Mannerim at 865 Swan Bay Road.
